Lynnette D. Espy-Williams

Lynnette D. Espy-Williams was appointed to the WSSC Water Board of Commissioners, representing Prince George’s County, in September 2022.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Spelman College and her Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. Following law school, Ms. Espy-Williams served as a judicial intern to Chief Justice Leah Ward Sears of the Supreme Court of Georgia.

Ms. Espy-Williams is a Member of Cozen O’Connor’s Commercial Litigation Department and currently serves as the firm’s Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer. Ms. Espy-Williams has a national practice representing a wide variety of clients in complex litigation.  Her experience in the commercial litigation industry is widely recognized as she has acted as lead counsel in many complex commercial litigation matters and routinely speaks on issues of import in the industry. Ms. Espy-Williams is the former President of the Gate City Bar Association, the oldest African-American bar association in the state of Georgia and previously served as an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland School of Law.

Beyond her work with Cozen O’Connor, Ms. Espy-Williams has used her legal background and leadership skills for the betterment of the community and spends a significant amount of time participating in various pro bono activities.

Ms. Espy-Williams was recently named by Savoy Magazine as one of the Most Influential Black Lawyers in the United States.  Ms. Espy-Williams was also recently named Graduate of the Year by the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law’s Black Law Students Association and was awarded the Diversity in Business award by the Washington Business Chronicle.

Ms. Espy-Williams lives in Prince George’s County, Maryland with her husband and three minor children.
