Aklile Tesfaye

Aklile provides leadership and guidance to the Production and Utility Services teams critical to providing water and sewer services to our 1.9 million customers. He also oversees the Innovation and Research Program, which looks to optimize and streamline our processes, reduce energy consumption and generate revenue from our waste stream. 

A highly effective public servant, leader and engineering professional, Aklile joined WSSC Water in May 2023 following a nearly 30-year career with DC Water, most recently serving as Vice President, Wastewater Operations. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), Board Certified Environmental Engineer and Certified Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, He also earned a Certificate in Public Management from the Executive Leadership Institute. 

Aklile holds multiple degrees, including a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Tampere, Finland, and a Master of Science in Environmental Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park. 

Outside of work, Aklile enjoys attending/watching sports and traveling with family.
