Maxene Bardwell

As the Chief Audit Executive, Maxene is responsible for allocating appropriate audit resources and leading a group of highly competent audit professionals who help ensure WSSC Water is operating effectively, efficiently, economically and ethically.

Maxene earned her master’s degree with a finance concentration from Notre Dame of Maryland University and a bachelor’s degree with an accounting concentration from The Ohio State University.

Maxene earned the following notable credentials over the course of her career and maintains active status for each: Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Inspector General Auditor (CIGA), Certified Information Technology Professional (CITP), and Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA). She is a member of several professional organizations: The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Association of Certified Public Accountants, Association of Inspectors General, Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants, Institute of Internal Auditors, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), and Association of Local Government Auditors.

Devoted to enhancing her community and profession, Maxene volunteers as a City of Laurel Maryland Ethics Commissioner, Officer for the ISACA Central Maryland Chapter Board of Directors, and Instructor for the Association of Inspectors General Institute. She received the 2018 Women to Watch Award from the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants.  

Maxene, who is of Jamaican descent, hails from Hartford, CT, and enjoys participating in Zumba, cycling and kickboxing fitness classes. She also makes gourmet chocolate-covered pretzels, volunteers in the community for her church and supports the initiatives of her beloved Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., through its legendary Lambda Delta Sigma Chapter.
