What Constitutes a Code Violation?

The most frequently cited violation of the WSSC Water Plumbing and Fuel Gas Code happens when work is done without obtaining the required permit(s). Another frequent occurrence is when work that was done with a permit did not have the required final inspection.

Violations also occur when plumbing or fuel gas work is done or installed by unlicensed individuals.

To protect yourself from possible code violations, here are key things to look for when you have plumbing or gas work done:

• Ask the Plumber or Gasfitter to show you their WSSC Water License
• A written contract or proposal is highly recommended
• Before beginning any work, the plumber or gasfitter is required to discuss all permit and inspection requirements
• Once the WSSC Water Permit has been obtained, have the licensee show it to you
• Beware of cash-only transactions. When the work is complete, get a receipt showing the company's name and its WSSC Water registration number
